Enjoy hiking through 20 hectares (49 acres) of densely wooded grounds at this nature-education park just a few minutes from Shirokanedai station. Unlike most of Tokyo's well-manicured parks and gardens, the goal of this park was to recreate the natural conditions of the area, and serve as a sanctuary for native plants and animals.
The Mizutori no Numa Pond in the southwest corner of the park and the Aquatic Plant Garden are probably the best places to catch sight of occasional birds, turtles, lizards and other animals. There are plenty of benches and rest rooms scattered throughout the grounds, and the Visitor Center at the park entrance has drink vending machines, coin lockers and air conditioning.
A small souvenir shop sells 3D insect models and other science toys as well as novelties like mastodon keychains. Packets of dinosaur-shaped nori roast-seaweed are available for your prehistoric-themed bento-making needs.
The park is open an additional half hour, until 5pm, from May through August, but last entry is still 4pm.
