The lovely gardens here include sections with three distinct styles - English landscape gardens, French formal gardens, and Japanese traditional gardens. There are several ponds, and a couple of teahouses where you can stop for green tea and sweets (Y700; closed Tuesdays). Another highlight is the Taiwan Pavilion, an example of southern Chinese Minnan-style architecture built in 1928.

The park is especially popular during cherry-blossom season in early April, and chrysanthemum season November 1-15, and is open every day during those periods. The whole park is 144 acres in size, with three main gates: Shinjuku Gate to the northwest (near Shinjuku 3-chome station), Okido Gate to the northeast (where a large greenhouse is located), and Sendagaya Gate to the south (accessible from Sendagaya station).
